Serviced Apartments vs Hotels – Everything You Need to Know – Travel Resort

When you’re travelling, whether it’s for work or just to get away for a while, most people opt for a hotel room. But, did you know that there’s a much more homely alternative?

Serviced apartments give you all of the benefits of a hotel room, with much more on top of that. They’re becoming increasingly popular as well, with the total number of serviced apartments set to exceed one million this year, according to Destination.

We’re going to compare serviced apartments with hotel rooms to show why you should be considering them next time you need to book accommodation.

One of the main advantages that serviced apartments hold over hotels is the range of facilities and services.

They come with all of the basics, such as a bed and bathroom, but are also fully furnished with a proper kitchen and mod-cons such as flat-screen TVs, phone-docking speakers, a DVD player and more.

There’s also usually a front desk where you can seek assistance and recommendations for the local area, but you don’t have to worry about being disturbed by a cleaner (although cleaning services are available should you want them!). Additionally, there’s a maintenance team on hand should anything go wrong.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that all of these extra amenities are going to come at a higher price, but in fact, they often actually work out cheaper.

We spoke to a London-based operator, Clarendon, who said: “This is because serviced apartments do away with lots of features such as daily cleaning services, on-site restaurants and room services, which allows serviced apartment providers to charge you even less for your accommodation.

“When you take into account that serviced apartments can often be shared, because of their size, it starts to look more and more like a great deal.”

Serviced apartments are particularly popular with business travellers who are working away from home for a couple of weeks or months.

When you’re away for this amount of time, it’s really important that you feel at home and being cooped up in a hotel room can cause cabin fever to set in.

What’s more, people are far less productive if they’re stuck in a space where they can’t properly relax, so it really benefits everyone to get somewhere more suitable with your own space and freedom to cook your own meals.

When you’re only away for a short time, the benefits of serviced apartments are maybe less obvious because things like cooking aren’t as important to you. Over a long period of time, however, you really start to miss home cooked meals!

If you’re looking to book a serviced apartment for a business trip, this article from Business and Industry is a good place to start.

So there you have it! Next time you need to book somewhere to stay, whether it be for business or pleasure, you have another option to consider (with more room and more flexibility at a smaller cost!)
